Generic Name: Levofloxacin
Dosage Form: 500 mg film-coated, scored tablet
Drug Class: Antibiotic
Indications:
This drug is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections.
Wellatrix® Overview:
Wellatrix® (Levofloxacin) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone class that works by inhibiting the replication of bacteria.
Indications for Wellatrix®:
- Treatment of various bacterial infections, including intra-abdominal, bone, respiratory, urinary, skin, and soft tissue infections, as well as some systemic infections.
Dosage Form:
500 mg film-coated, scored tablets
How to Use Wellatrix®:
Take Wellatrix® as prescribed by your doctor, and to achieve the best therapeutic response, avoid increasing or decreasing the dose or duration of treatment without consulting your doctor.
- Take the tablet with a full glass of water, with or without food. Avoid taking it with orange juice.
- Drink plenty of water while using this medication.
- There should be at least a 2-hour gap between taking Wellatrix® and multivitamins, iron supplements, calcium, zinc, sucralfate, or antacid syrups (such as aluminum magnesium or magnesium hydroxide).
Missed Dose:
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is less than 8 hours before your next dose, skip the missed dose and do not take two doses at the same time.
Overdose:
If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately.
Monitoring During Treatment:
During treatment with Wellatrix®, the following should be monitored:
- White blood cell count
- Symptoms of infection
- Symptoms of tendonopathy (pain, swelling, inflammation, or tendon rupture) and peripheral neuropathy
- Blood glucose levels, particularly in diabetic patients
- Skin rashes and allergic reactions
- Function of kidneys, liver, and blood (routine monitoring)
- Possible crystallization in urine
- Changes in mental status
Contraindications:
- History of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics (such as ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin), or any of the ingredients in the formulation.
- History of tendonitis or tendon rupture following quinolone antibiotics.
- History of myasthenia gravis.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid sun exposure while using this drug.
- This drug should be used cautiously in patients with renal insufficiency, and dose adjustment is necessary.
- Elderly patients may experience a higher incidence of side effects, so they should be monitored closely. It is advisable to avoid this drug in patients over 65 years old unless necessary.
- Children may have a higher risk of tendon rupture. Therefore, use in children should be approached with caution.
- Contact your doctor if you experience symptoms of high or low blood sugar, such as dizziness, fast breathing or heartbeat, confusion, drowsiness, weakness, flushing, headache, unusual thirst or hunger, frequent urination, trembling, or sweating.
- In the case of severe allergic reactions such as redness, swelling, blisters, skin peeling, redness of the eyes, or sores in the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes, seek medical attention immediately.
- Levofloxacin may increase the risk of C. difficile-associated diarrhea. If you experience symptoms like stomach pain, watery or bloody diarrhea, contact your doctor immediately.
- If you experience an abnormal or fast heart rate, or fainting, contact your doctor.
- This drug should be used with caution in patients with G6PD deficiency (favism).
Use During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
- If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Wellatrix®.
- Wellatrix® crosses the placenta and is also excreted in breast milk. The decision to use this drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be based on the benefits for the mother and the risks to the baby.
Side Effects:
Like any medication, Wellatrix® may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:
- Insomnia, headache, and dizziness
- Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, and indigestion
Drug Interactions:
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Wellatrix® with other medications or supplements.
Packaging:
Each package contains 5 tablets (1 blister pack of 5 tablets).
Storage:
- Store the medication at temperatures below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
- Do not use the medication after the expiry date printed on the packaging. Avoid using expired or outdated medications.
- Keep the medication out of the reach of children.
- Do not remove the medication from its original packaging until use.
