Prelex®

Generic Name: Amlodipine and Valsartan
Dosage Form: Coated tablet, scored 5/80 mg and 5/160 mg
Drug Category: Antihypertensive

Indications: Prelex® is used for the control of high blood pressure.

 

Prelex®

Prelex® contains two drugs, Valsartan and Amlodipine, which are used to treat high blood pressure. Amlodipine prevents the constriction of blood vessel walls, and Valsartan works by blocking the Angiotensin 2 receptor, causing blood vessel dilation and lowering blood pressure.


Indications for Prelex®

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)


Dosage Form of Prelex®

  • Coated and scored tablet containing Amlodipine 5 mg and Valsartan 80 mg

  • Coated and scored tablet containing Amlodipine 5 mg and Valsartan 160 mg


How to Use Prelex®

Take Prelex® as prescribed by your doctor, and do not alter the dosage or duration of treatment without consulting your doctor for optimal therapeutic response.
Take Prelex® at a fixed time each day with a glass of water, with or without food.
Do not abruptly stop taking Prelex®. Discontinuation should be done under the guidance of your doctor.


If You Miss a Dose of Prelex®

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.


Overdose of Prelex®

If you have taken more than the recommended dose, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest medical facility.


Monitoring During Prelex® Use

  • Blood pressure

  • Heart rate

  • Electrolyte levels

  • Liver and kidney function

  • Peripheral edema (fluid retention, particularly in the legs and ankles)

  • Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing up)

  • Ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdomen)


Contraindications for Prelex®

  • Allergy to Amlodipine, Valsartan, or any other ingredient in the formulation

  • Concurrent use with Aliskiren in diabetic patients

  • Pregnancy


Warnings and Precautions

  • Prelex® may increase the risk of angioedema (swelling, especially in the face and throat) in patients with a history of swelling due to ACE inhibitors (like captopril, enalapril, etc.). Discontinue the drug and consult your doctor immediately if this occurs.

  • If you have symptoms of hyperkalemia (high potassium), such as abnormal heart rhythms, dizziness, weakness, lightheadedness, fainting, or shortness of breath, consult your doctor.

  • Patients with heart failure or a history of heart attacks should be monitored closely.

  • There is a higher risk of symptomatic hypotension in patients with low fluid volumes. Make sure to drink adequate fluids during the treatment.

  • Prelex® should be used with caution in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or severe aortic stenosis.

  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney dysfunction or renal artery stenosis. Dose adjustment may be needed.

  • Prelex® should be used cautiously in elderly patients. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose and gradually increase it.

  • It is better to avoid using this drug during surgery. If surgery is needed, inform your doctor.


Prelex® in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The combination of Amlodipine and Valsartan is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects of Prelex®

As with any medication, Prelex® may cause side effects. These do not occur in all patients. Common side effects may include:

  • Dizziness

  • Swelling in the limbs

  • Cold-like symptoms

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Prelex® with any other medication or supplement.


Packaging of Prelex®

Each pack contains 30 tablets (3 blister packs, each containing 10 tablets).


Storage Conditions for Prelex®

  • Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture.

  • Do not use the medicine after the expiry date.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Do not remove from the original packaging until ready for use.
