Generic name: Indapamide
Dosage form: Film-coated extended-release tablet 1.5 mg

Drug class: Antihypertensive

Indications: For the treatment of high blood pressure and edema.


Indapamide ER

Indapamide ER is a diuretic used to control high blood pressure.


Indications for Indapamide ER

  • Chronic hypertension

  • Edema (swelling due to excess fluid in body tissues)

  • Calcium nephrolithiasis

Dosage Form

  • Film-coated extended-release oral tablet, 1.5 mg


How to take Indapamide ER

Take exactly as prescribed. If you are unsure how to use it, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Swallow with a full glass of water, before or after food.
Swallow tablets whole; do not chew or crush.


Missed Dose

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose.


Overdose

If you take more than the prescribed amount, contact your doctor or go to a medical center immediately.


Monitoring During Treatment

  • Blood pressure

  • Serum electrolytes

  • Fluid balance

  • Visual changes

  • Kidney function and serum uric acid


Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to indapamide, sulfonamides, or any component of the formulation
  • Urinary retention
  • Severe renal or hepatic failure
  • Hepatic encephalopathy
  • Low blood potassium
  • Concomitant use with certain antiarrhythmic medicines
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or lactase deficiency
  • Addison’s disease
  • Immediately after bariatric surgery

Warnings and Precautions

  • Indapamide may cause electrolyte disturbances (↓ sodium, ↓potassium, ↓chloride, ↓magnesium, ↑ calcium). Blood tests are used to monitor electrolytes during therapy.
  • If you develop eye symptoms such as vision changes or eye pain, contact your doctor.
  • Use with extra caution in diabetes, gout, or hypercholesterolemia—inform your doctor if you have any of these.
  • Indapamide may exacerbate lupus symptoms—tell your doctor if you have lupus.

Use During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning pregnancy, or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before use. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.


Possible Side Effects

As with all medicines, unwanted effects may occur (not everyone gets them). Possible effects include:

  • Hypokalemia (low blood potassium)

  • Allergic reactions, especially skin reactions

  • Frequent urination

  • Muscle spasms


Drug Interactions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Indapamide with other medicines or supplements.


Packaging

Each pack contains 30 tablets (2 blisters of 15).


Storage

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
  • Do not use after the last day of the month stated on the expiry date.
  • Keep in the original package.
