Generic Name: Pantoprazole
Dosage forms: 20 mg and 40 mg Enteric-coated tablets
Pharmacological Class: Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
Indications for Pepticare®:
Pepticare® is used for treating various stomach-related conditions, including reflux and ulcers.
Indications:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Dyspepsia (Indigestion)
- Prevention of excessive gastric acid secretion due to pancreatic or duodenal tumors (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome)
- Prevention and treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Helicobacter pylori infection eradication therapy
- Upper gastrointestinal bleeding
- Prevention of ulcers induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as naproxen and mefenamic acid
- Prevention of aspiration during anesthesia
· Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
Pepticare® Composition:
20 mg and 40 mg Enteric-coated tablets.
How to Take Pepticare®:
- Follow your doctor's instructions for use. If you are unsure about how to take the medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
- Take Pepticare® 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals (preferably at breakfast). If you need to take it twice a day, take it before breakfast and dinner.
- Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew, crush, or split the tablets.
Missed Dose:
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time.
Overdose:
- If you take more than the prescribed dose, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest healthcare facility.
Monitoring During Pepticare® Treatment:
- Magnesium levels: Monitor before starting and periodically during treatment, especially in patients on digoxin, diuretics, or other medications that can cause hypomagnesemia.
- Bone loss and fractures
- Clostridium difficile-related diarrhea
- Calcium and gastrin levels
· Gastric acid secretion levels in patients with excessive acid secretion
· Signs or symptoms of cutaneous lupus erythematosus or systemic lupus erythematosus.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or any components of the formulation
- History of hypersensitivity to other proton pump inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole)
- In combination with rilpivirine-containing products
Warnings and Precautions for Pepticare®:
- Consult a doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms: unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, dyspepsia, vomiting or vomiting blood, black or bloody stools, or persistent diarrhea.
- Severe allergic reactions: Redness, swelling, rash, blisters, hives, itching, wheezing, tightness in the chest or throat, difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking, and unusual hoarseness. Seek immediate medical help.
- Long-term use (over 1 year): May increase the risk of bone fractures, particularly in the elderly, children, people with osteoporosis, and those on high doses.
- Lupus symptoms: Be alert for signs of cutaneous or systemic lupus erythematosus.
- Vitamin B12 deficiency: Long-term use may reduce absorption. If you experience muscle weakness, fatigue, paleness, mood changes, or tingling in limbs, consult your doctor.
- Clostridium difficile diarrhea: Proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole can increase the risk of C. difficile infection, causing symptoms like stomach pain, watery or bloody diarrhea. Contact your doctor immediately if such symptoms occur.
- Effect on laboratory tests: May interfere with tests such as chromogranin A levels.
- Drug interaction with Clopidogrel: Pepticare® may reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel.
Use of Pepticare® During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using pantoprazole during pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding: The use of pantoprazole during breastfeeding should be evaluated for potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
Side Effects of Pepticare®:
Like all medications, Pepticare® may cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Some potential side effects include:
- Headache or dizziness
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Joint pain
- Gastrointestinal infections (intestinal infections)
Drug Interactions with Pepticare®:
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking pantoprazole with any other drugs or supplements.
Pepticare® Packaging:
Each package contains 30 tablets (3 blisters, 10 tablets each).
Storage Conditions for Pepticare®:
- Store the medication at below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
- Use by the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not remove the tablets from the packaging until use.
