Generic Name: Esomeprazole
Formulation: 40 mg enteric-coated capsule
Pharmacological Class: Proton Pump Inhibitor


Indications for Esompicare®:

Esompicare® (Esomeprazole) belongs to a group of drugs known as Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), which reduce stomach acid secretion.

Indications:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Dyspepsia (indigestion)
  • Esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus)
  • Prevention of excessive gastric acid secretion due to pancreatic or duodenal tumors (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome)
  • Prevention of stomach and duodenal ulcers
  • Helicobacter pylori infection regimen
  • Prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers (e.g., naproxen, mefenamic acid)

Esompicare® Composition:

Each capsule contains 40 mg esomeprazole.


Dosage and Administration of Esompicare®:

  • Take Esompicare® exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If uncertain about how to take the medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Take Esompicare® at least one hour before meals (preferably breakfast) with a full glass of water. Swallow the capsule whole and avoid crushing, breaking, or chewing it.

Missed Dose:

  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

Overdose:

  • If you take more than the prescribed amount, contact your doctor or seek medical attention immediately.

Monitoring During Esompicare® Treatment:

  • Susceptibility testing recommended in patients who fail H. pylori eradication regimen.
  • Monitor for rebleeding in patients with upper GI bleeding or peptic ulcer bleed
  • Magnesium (baseline and periodically thereafter,  especially if taking concomitant digoxin, diuretics, or other drugs known to cause hypomagnesemia)
  • Calcium (baseline and periodically in patients at risk [eg, hypoparathyroidism])
  • Signs or symptoms of cutaneous lupus erythematosus or systemic lupus erythematosus
  • C. difficile-associated diarrhea
  • Bone loss and fractures (especially in patients on high-dose or long-term therapy [≥1 year])

 


Contraindications for Esompicare®:

  • History of hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or any other ingredients in the formulation
  • History of hypersensitivity to other proton pump inhibitors (e.g., pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, omeprazole)
  • Concomitant use with products that contain rilpivirine

Warnings and Precautions for Esompicare®:

  • Some medications may cause serious side effects when taken with esomeprazole. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking to avoid drug interactions and unwanted side effects.
  • Even if you feel better, continue taking esomeprazole until the treatment course is complete as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Esomeprazole may need dose adjustment in patients with severe liver disease. Inform your doctor if you have liver problems.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions such as redness, swelling, skin rash, blisters, hives, itching, wheezing, chest or throat tightness, trouble breathing, swallowing, or speaking, or unusual swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Long-term use of esomeprazole may reduce vitamin B12 absorption. If you experience symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency (e.g., muscle weakness, fatigue, pale skin, mood changes, or tingling in the limbs), consult your doctor about vitamin B12 supplementation.
  • If you experience symptoms like unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting (especially if bloody), black or bloody stools, or persistent diarrhea, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Esomeprazole may interfere with the results of certain tests. Inform your doctor before any diagnostic tests.
  • Esomeprazole may reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel, an antiplatelet drug. If you take clopidogrel, inform your doctor.
  • Esomeprazole may increase the risk of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. If you experience symptoms such as stomach pain, watery or bloody stools, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Do not self-medicate with Esomeprazole for long periods without consulting your doctor.
  • When used for self-medication (OTC), do not use if you have trouble or pain when swallowing food; vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools; heartburn with light-headedness, dizziness, or sweating; chest pain or shoulder pain with shortness of breath, sweating, pain spreading to arms, neck or shoulders, or light-headedness; frequent chest pain.

Use of Esompicare® During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Consult your doctor before using esomeprazole during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is generally recommended to avoid this medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless deemed necessary by your doctor.


Side Effects of Esompicare®:

Like all medications, Esompicare® may cause some unwanted side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Possible side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Skin sensitivity or rash
  • Joint pain
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, bloating, vomiting, acid reflux, and constipation

Drug Interactions with Esompicare®:

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using esomeprazole in combination with other medications or supplements.


Esompicare® Packaging:

Each bottle contains 28 capsules.


Storage Conditions for Esompicare®:

  • Store at below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
  • Use the medication before the expiration date printed on the packaging.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
