Generic name: Escitalopram
Dosage form: Film-coated scored tablets, 10 mg and 20 mg
Drug class: Antidepressant
Indication: Used for the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety.
Neojinex®
Neojinex® (Escitalopram) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases serotonin levels without affecting dopamine or norepinephrine, helping to treat anxiety disorders and depression.

- Unipolar depression (MDD)
- Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Bulimia nervosa
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
- Panic disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Premature Ejaculation (PE)
- Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)
- Menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes and night sweats
Dosage Form
- Film-coated scored tablets: 10 mg and 20 mg
How to Use and Dosage
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Do not stop taking the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.
- Take Neojinex® with a glass of water, either with or without food.
- Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Escitalopram.
Missed Dose of Neojinex®
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
If it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not take two doses at the same time or an extra dose.
Overdose of Neojinex®
If you take more than the recommended dose, notify your doctor immediately or go to a medical facility.
Monitoring During Treatment During Treatment with Escitalopram
- Personal or family history of bipolar disorder or mania
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Electrolytes: potassium, sodium, magnesium
- Liver and kidney function
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Progression of symptoms
- Unusual behavior changes (e.g., anxiety, restlessness, irritability)
- Suicidal thoughts
Contraindications for Escitolopram
- Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram, Citalopram, or any component of the formulation
- Concurrent use with MAOIs (e.g., selegiline, tranylcypromine) or within 14 days before or after MAOI therapy
- Concurrent use with pimozide, linezolid, or intravenous methylene blue
- Prolonged QT interval on ECG
Warnings and Precautions for Escitolopram
- Use with caution in elderly patients, those with metabolic problems, or a history of heart disease, including prior heart attack.
- Use cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment; dose adjustment may be needed.
- Use cautiously in patients with seizure disorders or conditions that may increase seizure risk (e.g., brain injury, alcohol use).
- Long-term use in elderly patients may increase the risk of bone fractures; extra caution is advised.
- Concomitant use of Escitalopram with antiplatelet drugs, anticoagulants, or NSAIDs may increase bleeding risk. Inform your physician if you use these medications.
- Escitalopram may lower blood sodium, especially in older patients; this is reversible after discontinuation. Report symptoms like headache, confusion, memory/concentration problems, or weakness to your doctor.
- If you experience vision changes, eye pain, or swelling/redness in or around the eyes, consult your doctor.
- If you experience symptoms such as fever, abnormal heart rate, confusion, excessive sweating, irritability, tremor, muscle stiffness, or flushing, consult your doctor immediately.
Use of Escitolopram During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Escitalopram during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Use is not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding decisions should weigh the benefits and risks of treatment.
Side Effects of Escitolopram
Possible side effects (not everyone experiences these):
- Headache
- Dizziness, fatigue, or weakness
- Sleep disturbances
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Nausea
- Sexual dysfunction
- Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating)

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Escitalopram with other medications or supplements.
Packaging of Neojinex®
- Each package contains 30 tablets (3 blister packs of 10 tablets each).
Storage Condition for Neojinex®
- Store below 30°C, away from moisture and light.
- The medication may be used until the end of the month printed on the package. Avoid using expired medications.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not remove tablets from the original packaging until use.
