Generic name: Fluvoxamine
Dosage form: Film-coated tablets, 50 mg and 100 mg
Drug class: Antidepressant
Indication: Used for the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, and depression.
Voxyrel®
Voxyrel® (Fluvoxamine) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that prevents neurons from reabsorbing serotonin while having minimal effect on norepinephrine or dopamine reuptake. It is mainly used to treat anxiety disorders, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Dosage Forms of Voxyrel®

Film-coated tablets: 50 mg and 100 mg
Dosage and Adminstration of Voxyrel®
-
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, with or without food.
-
If taken once daily, it is recommended to take it before bedtime.
-
Do not stop taking the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.
Missed Dose of Voxyrel®
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not take two doses at the same time or an extra dose.
Overdose of Voxyrel®
If you take more than the recommended dose, contact your doctor immediately.
Monitoring During Treatment with Fluvoxamine
Before starting and during treatment, the following may be monitored based on your doctor’s recommendation:

Depression symptoms, worsening of symptoms, suicidal thoughts, or abnormal behavior changes (e.g., anxiety, irritability, panic attacks, insomnia, aggressive behavior, mania/hypomania and restlessness), especially during the first 1–2 months and during dose adjustments

Sodium levels in patients at risk of electrolyte disturbances

Blood glucose in diabetic patients and liver function tests
-
Weight and BMI in all patients
Contraindications for Fluvoxamine

Known hypersensitivity to Fluvoxamine
-
Concomitant use with certain drugs, including MAOIs (e.g., moclobemide, selegiline, and tranylcypromine), may cause interactions. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any medications.
Warnings and Precautions for Fluvoxamine
-
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience fever, irregular heart rate, confusion, excessive sweating, irritability, tremor, muscle stiffness, or flushing.

Fluvoxamine may cause drowsiness or dizziness; avoid activities requiring high alertness, such as driving or operating heavy machinery.
-
Consult your doctor if you experience vision changes, eye pain, or swelling/redness around the eyes.
-
Concurrent use with antiplatelet, anticoagulant, or NSAID medications may increase bleeding risk.
-
Long-term use in elderly patients may increase the risk of bone fractures; extra caution is advised.

Fluvoxamine may lower blood sodium, especially in older adults; this is reversible upon discontinuation. Report symptoms like headache, confusion, memory problems, or weakness.
-
Use with caution in patients with uncontrolled epilepsy, as seizure risk may increase.
-
Fluvoxamine should be tapered gradually and not stopped abruptly except in emergencies.

The effectiveness of Fluvoxamine may be reduced in smokers.
Use of Fluvoxamine During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Consult your doctor before using Fluvoxamine during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only be considered if the benefits outweigh the risks, under specialist supervision.
Side Effects of Fluvoxamine
Possible side effects (not everyone experiences these):

Loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, and dry mouth

Weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, and irritability
-
Changes in blood pressure, palpitations, syncope, excessive sweating, feeling hot or flushed
-
Sexual dysfunction (more common in males)

Weight changes
Drug Interactions with Fluvoxamine
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Fluvoxamine with other medications or supplements (including herbal products).

Each package contains 30 tablets (3 blister packs of 10 tablets each).
Storage Conditions of Voxyrel®

Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
-
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
-
Use before the expiration month on the package. Do not use expired medication.

Keep in the original packaging until use.
