- Never discontinue Levekin® without consulting your healthcare provider.
- Take Levekin® at the same time(s) each day with a glass of water, either with food or on an empty stomach.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time or an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.
If more than the prescribed dose is taken, contact your physician immediately or seek emergency medical attention.
Before and during treatment, your physician may periodically monitor:
- Complete blood count (CBC), particularly in patients with severe weakness, fever, recurrent infections, or coagulation abnormalities
- Liver function tests
- Suicidal ideation, depression, and behavioral changes
- Hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or any component of the formulation
- Abrupt discontinuation or rapid dose reduction of levetiracetam may lead to serious adverse effects and recurrent seizures. Therefore, treatment should be discontinued gradually under close medical supervision.
- Consult your physician if depression, anxiety, aggressive behavior, irritability, or mood and behavioral changes occur during treatment.
- Seek immediate medical attention if severe hypersensitivity reactions occur, including skin rash, swelling, blistering, skin peeling, eye redness, or ulceration of the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes.
- Inform your physician if you have kidney disease or a history of bariatric surgery.
- Levetiracetam may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or engaging in activities requiring mental alertness until you know how the medication affects you.
If treatment with levetiracetam is required during pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult your physician.
The use of levetiracetam during pregnancy and lactation should be based on specialist medical advice, taking into account the potential benefits and risks of treatment.
