Eprona®

Dosage form: Film-coated tablets, 25 mg and 50 mg
Drug class: Antihypertensive
Indication: Used to control blood pressure and treat heart failure.

Eprona®

Eprona® (Eplerenone) selectively blocks mineralocorticoid receptors, lowering blood pressure. It also helps prevent fibrosis of cardiac and renal tissues.

Indications

  • Chronic hypertension
  • Myocardial infarction with reduced ejection fraction
  • Heart failure
  • Primary hyperaldosteronism

Film-coated tablets, 25 mg and 50 mg

How to take Eprona®

Take Eprona® exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This medicine requires close medical supervision at initiation, during treatment, and when stopping therapy.
Take with a glass of water, with or without food.

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at once or extra doses.

Overdose

If you take more than the recommended amount, contact emergency services and your doctor immediately.

What to monitor while taking Eprona®

  • Blood pressure

  • Serum potassium

  • Serum creatinine
    In heart failure, monitor serum potassium and kidney function.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Eplerenone or any component of the formulation

  • Hyperkalemia (high serum potassium)

  • Severe renal or hepatic impairment

  • Concomitant use with certain drugs: ketoconazole, itraconazole, nefazodone, clarithromycin, nelfinavir, ritonavir

  • Concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride) or potassium supplements

  • Addison’s disease

  • Hypertensive patients with microalbuminuria due to underlying diabetes

Warnings and precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with moderate to severe renal or hepatic impairment.

  • Contact your doctor if you develop signs of high potassium, such as abnormal heartbeat, confusion, weakness, lightheadedness or dizziness, fainting, or shortness of breath.

Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy and lactation only at your doctor’s discretion after weighing the benefits versus risks.

Possible side effects of Eprona®

As with all medicines, side effects may occur, though not in everyone. Possible effects include:

  • Headache and dizziness

  • Elevated blood potassium

  • Increased serum creatinine

Drug interactions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Eprona® with any other medicines or supplements.

Packaging

Each pack contains 30 tablets (3 blisters × 10 tablets).

Storage

  • Store below 30 °C, away from light and moisture.

  • Usable until the end of the month stated on the expiry date; do not store or use expired medicines.

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

  • Do not remove from the original packaging until use.
