Decarelin®

Patient Details

Decarelin®

Generic Name: Triptorelin Acetate
Dosage Form: Vial containing 100 micrograms Triptorelin Acetate per 1 mL injectable solution
Drug Class: Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) Agonist
Indications: This medication is used as adjunctive therapy in infertility treatment in women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation.

Description

Decarelin® (Triptorelin Acetate) is prescribed in infertility treatments involving Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).
It belongs to a class of drugs known as GnRH agonists, which prevent a premature rise in luteinizing hormone (LH) and consequently premature ovulation during the menstrual cycle.
When the eggs are mature and ready for collection, ovulation-inducing drugs are administered to trigger egg release.

Indications

Decarelin® is used in controlled ovarian stimulation treatments to prevent premature elevation of luteinizing hormone (LH).

Dosage Form

Each vial contains 1 mL of injectable solution (0.1 mg/mL)
Each vial provides 100 micrograms of Triptorelin Acetate, equivalent to 95.6 micrograms of Triptorelin.

Preparation

Decarelin® is a ready-to-use injection solution and requires no reconstitution.

Dosage and Administration

Decarelin® should be prescribed by a specialist physician. Treatment is initiated either in the early follicular phase (day 2 or 3 of the menstrual cycle) or in the mid-luteal phase (days 21 to 23 of the menstrual cycle, equivalent to 5 to 7 days before the expected onset of bleeding) and continues until the day of administration of the ovulation-inducing medication.

Decarelin® is administered daily via subcutaneous injection, at a site less than 5 cm from the navel. To reduce local allergic reactions, choose a different area of the abdomen each day. The injection site should not be painful, bruised, red, or show any other skin abnormalities.

Injection procedure:

1.      Clean the injection site with an alcohol pad and allow the area to dry.

2.      Gently pinch the skin at the injection site with one hand.

3.      Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle (or 45 degrees in thin individuals), fully inject the contents of the syringe, and release the skin while counting from one to three.

4.      Using an alcohol pad, apply gentle pressure to the injection site as you remove the needle.

Note: Each vial and syringe is for single use only. Dispose of properly after injection.
