Generic name: Tranexamic Acid
Dosage form: 250 mg capsules
Pharmacologic class: Antifibrinolytic
Indications: Prevention and treatment of bleeding.
Texanik®
Texanik® (tranexamic acid) is an antifibrinolytic medicine. By inhibiting the breakdown of fibrin (the clot-forming protein) and protecting the clot, it helps prevent and treat bleeding.
Indications for Texanik®

Reducing heavy menstrual bleeding and other abnormal uterine bleeding

Prevention and treatment of bleeding during dental procedures in patients with bleeding disorders, including hemophilia or those using anticoagulants

Reducing postpartum bleeding
-
Reducing or treating various bleedings, including gastrointestinal, intracranial, or traumatic bleeding
-
Prevention of hereditary angioedema attacks
-
Prevention of bleeding after various surgeries, including orthopedic and cardiac operations
Dosage form
Oral capsule, 250 mg.
How to take Texanik®
Use exactly as prescribed. If you are unsure how to take it, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not change the dose or duration without medical advice.
You may take Texanik® with food or on an empty stomach.
Missed dose
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at once.
Overdose
If more than the prescribed amount is taken, contact a doctor or go to a healthcare facility immediately.
Monitoring while on Texanik®

Vision (for treatments longer than 3 months)

Signs of hypersensitivity, seizures, and thrombotic events
-
EEG in patients with a history of seizures
-
TEG/ROTEM in trauma-related bleeding when applicable
Contraindications
-
Hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid or any component
-
Active thromboembolism (e.g., DVT, cerebral thrombosis, pulmonary embolism)
-
History or risk of thrombosis/thromboembolism, including retinal vein/artery occlusion
-
Use of combined hormonal contraceptives
-
Hematuria
Warnings and precautions
-
May cause dizziness or impair physical/mental abilities; avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.

In DIC, use only with caution and close monitoring; inform your doctor if you have a history.

Renal impairment requires dose adjustment—tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.

Use with extra caution in subarachnoid hemorrhage or untreated cardiovascular/cerebrovascular disease; inform your doctor if you have these.

Report visual changes, eye pain, or severe eye irritation immediately.

Seek urgent care for widespread hypersensitivity (redness, swelling, blistering/peeling skin, red eyes, or sores in mouth/throat/nose/eyes).

Avoid concurrent hormonal contraceptives while taking tranexamic acid.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
Tranexamic acid crosses the placenta and is excreted in breast milk. Decisions in pregnancy or breastfeeding should weigh risks and benefits with your physician.
Possible side effects
Not everyone gets side effects. More common effects include:

Back, muscle, or joint pain

Nasal congestion
Drug interactions
Consult your doctor/pharmacist about all medicines or supplements you take while using tranexamic acid.
Packaging
Each pack contains 100 capsules (10 blisters × 10 capsules).
Storage

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Store at 25°C or below, protected from light and moisture.

Use until the end of the month shown on the expiry date; do not keep or use expired medicines.

Keep in the original package.
