Generic Name: Aciclovir
Dosage Form: Lyophilized powder containing 250 mg and 500 mg Aciclovir for the preparation of an injectable solution

Indications for Roviro®:

Roviro® is used to treat various viral infections, including:

  • Herpes simplex virus infections (such as cold sores)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Herpes zoster (shingles)

How Roviro® Works:

Roviro® (Aciclovir) is an antiviral medication used to treat herpes and varicella infections, including genital herpes, mucocutaneous herpes, shingles, and chickenpox. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of viral DNA, preventing the virus from replicating.


Indications for Roviro® Use:

  • Treatment of herpes infections, including herpes encephalitis, genital herpes, and mucocutaneous herpes.
  • Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles).
  • Treatment of varicella (chickenpox).

Dosage Form of Roviro®:

  • 250 mg and 500 mg lyophilized powder for preparation of injectable solution.

Preparation of Roviro®:

Roviro® is compatible with the following solutions:

  • 0.9% Sodium Chloride
  • 5% Dextrose

To prepare the solution for injection, add 10 mL of sterile water for injection to the vial, and gently shake until a clear solution is obtained. The concentration should be 25 mg/mL for Roviro® 250 mg or 50 mg/mL for Roviro® 500 mg. The resulting solution must be diluted with compatible solvents to a concentration of 7 mg/mL or less.

The prepared solution can be stored at room temperature (20–25°C) for up to 12 hours, and the diluted solution can be stored for up to 24 hours.


How to Administer Roviro®:

  • Roviro® is only for intravenous infusion. It should be infused over a fixed rate and a minimum of one hour.
  • Each vial is for single use only. Discard any remaining contents after use.

Monitoring During Roviro® Treatment:

  • Monitor the patient's hydration status.
  • Check urine tests, serum creatinine, BUN, and urine output.
  • Monitor liver enzymes.
  • Perform a complete blood cell count.
  • Watch for signs of neurological toxicity.
  • Monitor neutrophil count in neonates.
  • Watch for renal toxicity in children receiving high doses.
  • Check the infusion site for any injection-related issues.

Contraindications for Roviro®:

  • Hypersensitivity to Aciclovir, Valaciclovir, or any component of the formulation.

Warnings and Precautions for Roviro®:

  • Intravenous Aciclovir is an irritant depending on its concentration. Avoid extravasation during administration.
  • Hydration is crucial during the administration of Roviro®.
  • Dosage adjustments should be made for individuals with renal impairment.
  • If signs of kidney problems occur, such as urine retention, blood in the urine, changes in urine volume, or unexplained weight gain, contact your doctor.
  • Elderly individuals are more sensitive to the side effects of Roviro® and should be closely monitored by a physician.
  • If symptoms like agitation, confusion, hallucinations, altered consciousness, or tremors occur, contact your doctor.

Roviro® Use During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

  • Consult your doctor before using Roviro® during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Roviro® crosses the placenta. Its use during pregnancy is only allowed if the benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the fetus.
  • Aciclovir is excreted in breast milk. The decision to use Roviro® while breastfeeding should be made after considering the risks to the infant, the benefits of breastfeeding, and the therapeutic benefit to the mother.

Side Effects of Roviro®:

As with all medications, Roviro® may cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:

  • Inflammation, pain, and redness at the injection site.
  • Headache.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Nausea and vomiting.

  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Roviro® with other medications or supplements.

Packaging of Roviro®:

  • Each package contains 1 vial of Roviro®.

Storage Conditions for Roviro®:

  • Store the medication at temperatures below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
  • The drug can be used until the expiration date on the packaging. Do not use or store expired medications.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Keep the drug in its original packaging until use.
