Generic Name: Alendronate Sodium
Dosage Form: 70 mg Tablets
Pharmacological Class: Bisphosphonates
Indications: This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
Alevance® (Alendronate Sodium) is a bisphosphonate medication that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. It reduces bone breakdown, lowers serum calcium and phosphate levels, and promotes their deposition into bone, thereby improving bone strength and density.

70 mg Oral Tablets
- Take Alevance® exactly as prescribed by your physician or pharmacist. To achieve the best therapeutic response, do not alter the dose or duration of treatment without medical advice.
- Take Alevance® once weekly, on the morning of a designated day, at least 30 minutes before breakfast and before taking any other medications or beverages.
- Do not take Alevance® with tea, coffee, fruit juice, milk, mineral water, or carbonated beverages.
- Swallow the tablet whole. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet.
- Take Alevance® with a full glass of plain water.
- Remain in an upright position (sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes after administration and do not lie down.
If a weekly dose is missed, take the missed dose on the morning after you remember. Never take two doses on the same day. Resume your regular once-weekly schedule thereafter.
If more than the prescribed dose is taken, contact your physician immediately.
- Bone mineral density (BMD) assessment
- Bone biochemical markers
- Serum calcium and vitamin D levels
- Evaluation of height, body weight, and chronic back pain
- Serum alkaline phosphatase levels and pain assessment in patients with Paget’s disease
- Assessment for femoral fractures in patients experiencing thigh pain
- Hypersensitivity to alendronate or any component of the formulation
- Esophageal abnormalities such as esophageal stricture or swallowing disorders
- Inability to sit or stand upright for at least 30 minutes after administration
- Hypocalcemia
- Severe renal impairment with creatinine clearance less than 35 mL/min
- Recent bariatric surgery
- Calcium and vitamin D supplementation may be recommended during treatment according to your physician’s advice.
- Inform your physician before starting therapy if you have difficulty swallowing, digestive disorders, or malabsorption syndromes.
- Alendronate should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment. Inform your physician if you have kidney disease.
- Consult your physician if symptoms of low calcium levels occur, including muscle cramps, muscle spasms, numbness, tingling sensations, or seizures.
- Long-term use of alendronate in patients with cancer, dental disease, anemia, coagulation disorders, or infections, as well as in those undergoing dental procedures, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or using poorly fitting dentures, may increase the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw. Discuss these conditions with your physician before treatment.
- Maintain good oral hygiene throughout treatment.
- Consult your physician if you develop severe groin or hip pain.
- Seek medical advice if you experience heartburn, chest pain, or pain during swallowing.
- Consult your physician if fever, chills, or sudden bone, muscle, or joint pain develops.
Consult your physician before taking alendronate sodium during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Use during pregnancy should only occur under medical supervision after careful consideration of the potential benefits and risks.
Like all medicines, Alevance® may cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them. Possible adverse reactions include:
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Peripheral edema
- Heartburn
- Chest pain
- Joint pain
- Bone pain
- Muscle pain
Consult your physician or pharmacist before taking alendronate sodium concomitantly with any other medications or dietary supplements.
Each package contains 4 tablets (1 blister pack of 4 tablets).
- Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
- The product may be used until the last day of the month indicated as the expiration date on the package.
- Do not use or store expired medicines.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Do not remove the tablets from their original packaging until ready for use.
