Rofend®
Generic Name: Voriconazole
Dosage Form: 200 mg film-coated, scored tablet
Drug Class: Antifungal
Indications for Rofend®:
Rofend® is used to treat various fungal infections, including:
- Skin infections
- Respiratory infections
- Kidney infections
- Abdominal infections
- Blood infections
How Rofend® Works:
Rofend® (Voriconazole) is a broad-spectrum antifungal from the triazole class. It reduces the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, thereby inhibiting the formation of the fungal membrane and ultimately causing the death of the fungus.
Indications for Rofend® Use:
- Treatment of infections caused by fungi such as Aspergillus, Blastomyces, and others.
- Treatment of Candida infections, including intra-abdominal infections, bloodstream infections, cardiac involvement, esophageal candidiasis, and ocular candidiasis.
- Treatment of severe fungal infections caused by Scedosporium and Fusarium species in patients who cannot use other antifungal drugs or are resistant to them.
- Prevention of invasive fungal infections.
Dosage Form of Rofend®:
Oral film-coated and scored tablets of 200 mg.
How to Use Rofend®:
- Take Rofend® exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- It is recommended to take Rofend® at least one hour before or after food.
- Do not stop taking the medication even if you feel better, unless advised by your doctor.
Missed Dose of Rofend®:
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s close to the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose on time. Do not take two doses at once.
Overdose of Rofend®:
If you take more than the prescribed dose, immediately inform your doctor or seek medical attention.
Monitoring During Rofend® Treatment:
- Kidney function (especially serum creatinine levels)
- Liver function
- Serum electrolyte levels, especially potassium, magnesium, and calcium
- Visual status (especially visual fields and color perception) for treatments longer than 28 days
- Photosensitivity (particularly in children)
- Pancreatic function
- Full-body skin examination
- Symptoms of fluorosis or periostitis, such as bone pain
- Drug concentration in blood
Contraindications for Rofend®:
- Hypersensitivity to Voriconazole or any of the formulation’s components
- Simultaneous use with drugs such as:
- Alprazolam, Amiodarone, Aprepitant, Doxorubicin, Domperidone, Carbamazepine, Cisapride, Efavirenz, Ritonavir, Ergotamine, Pimozide, Quinidine, Rifampin, Sirolimus, St. John’s Wort, Phenobarbital, Lovastatin, Midazolam, Simvastatin, Triazolam
Warnings and Precautions for Rofend®:
- Voriconazole has many serious drug interactions. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking. Even during treatment with this drug, consult your doctor before starting any new medications or supplements.
- Concurrent use of Voriconazole with corticosteroids (like prednisone and dexamethasone) may increase the risk of Cushing’s syndrome. Notify your doctor if you experience symptoms such as abnormal weight gain, fat accumulation on the sides of your face or neck, thinning skin, excessive sweating, or easy bruising.
- During treatment, patients should avoid direct sunlight without protection and wear protective clothing and high-SPF sunscreen.
- Regular monitoring of electrolyte imbalances (like calcium, magnesium, or potassium) is required before and during treatment.
- Voriconazole should be used with caution in patients with liver failure, and dosage adjustments may be required. Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disease.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience widespread allergic reactions such as redness, swelling, blistering, skin peeling, redness in the eyes, mouth sores, fever, chills, or shortness of breath.
- Use Voriconazole with caution in patients with a history of heart problems. Notify your doctor if you experience a rapid or irregular heartbeat or fainting.
- Inform your doctor if you experience bone pain or vision changes during treatment.
Rofend® Use During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
Voriconazole use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended. If you plan to become pregnant, consult your doctor before using this drug.
Side Effects of Rofend®:
Like all medications, Rofend® may cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Possible side effects include:
- Increased blood pressure
- Skin rashes and sensitivity
- Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain
- Increased liver enzyme levels
Drug Interactions with Rofend®:
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Voriconazole with any other medications or supplements.
Packaging of Rofend®:
- Each package contains 30 tablets (3 blister packs of 10 tablets each).
Storage Conditions for Rofend®:
- Store the medication below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
- Use before the expiration date indicated on the packaging. Do not use or store expired medications.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not remove the medication from its original packaging until use.
