Generic Name: Bethanechol Chloride
Formulation: 10 mg and 25 mg scored tablets
Pharmacological Class: Cholinergic Agonists


Mayocare®

Mayocare® (Bethanechol Chloride) is a cholinergic drug that helps to contract bladder muscles and assist with urination.


Indications for Mayocare®

  • Non-obstructive urinary retention
  • Neurogenic bladder

Dosage Forms of Mayocare®

Each tablet contains Bethanechol Chloride in strengths of 10 mg or 25 mg.


How to Use and Dosage of Mayocare®

  • Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. If you are unsure of how to take it, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

  • To prevent nausea, take Mayocare® on an empty stomach (one hour before or two hours after meal).

  • Do not chew, crush, or split the tablet.


Missed Dose of Mayocare®

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.


Overdose of Mayocare®

If you take more than the recommended dose, immediately inform your doctor or seek medical attention.


Monitoring During Treatment with Bethanechol Chloride

  • Symptoms of urinary tract infections (such as burning sensation, frequent urination, and strong-smelling urine).


Contraindications for Bethanechol Chloride

  • Hypersensitivity to Bethanechol or any components of the formulation

  • Asthma

  • Hyperthyroidism

  • Seizures or Parkinson’s disease

  • Low blood pressure, bradycardia (decreased heart rate), coronary artery disease, and heart conduction disorders

  • Active peptic ulcers, recent gastrointestinal or urinary tract surgery, urinary or gastrointestinal obstructions, and acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract or peritoneum.


Warnings and Precautions for Bethanechol Chloride

  • If you have a urinary infection, inform your doctor before starting treatment with this drug.

  • Orthostatic hypotension (sudden drop in blood pressure when standing up) may occur at the start of treatment with Bethanechol. It is recommended to avoid sudden standing or sitting after taking the medication.

  • You may experience drowsiness or dizziness when taking Bethanechol. If so, avoid driving or performing tasks that require alertness.


Use of Bethanechol Chloride During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Before using Bethanechol during pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist.


Side Effects of Bethanechol Chloride

Like any medication, Bethanechol Chloride can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Potential side effects include:

  • Hyperhidrosis and increased salivation

  • Flushing, bradycardia (slow heart rate), and low blood pressure

  • Urgency to urinate

  • Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain

  • Shortness of breath and worsening of asthma symptoms

  • Lacrimation

  • Headaches and seizures

Each pack contains 100 tablets (10 blister packs with 10 tablets each).


Storage Conditions for Mayocare®

  • Store at below 30°C, away from light and moisture.

  • Use the medication before the expiration date printed on the packaging.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Do not remove the drug from its original packaging until use.
