Indications: This medicine is used to treat various infections, including urinary, respiratory, bone, joint, and skin infections.
Ciprox® (Ciprofloxacin) is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that prevents bacterial multiplication.
This medicine is used to treat skin and soft-tissue infections, bone and joint infections, hospital-acquired pneumonia, endocarditis, febrile neutropenia, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, urogenital tract infections, prostatitis, and pyelonephritis.
500 mg oral film-coated tablet.
To achieve the best therapeutic response, do not reduce or increase the dose or change the treatment duration without consulting your physician.
Take Ciprox® exactly as directed by your physician, at a specified time of day.
Take Ciprox® with food and a full glass of water to help prevent stomach discomfort. Drink enough water while taking this medicine.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If less than 6 hours remain until the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time or take an extra dose.
If you take more than the recommended amount, inform your physician immediately or go to a medical center.
- Blood cell count
- Liver and kidney function during long-term treatment
- Changes in mental status
- Signs and symptoms of tendon injury, such as tendon pain, swelling, inflammation, or rupture, and/or peripheral neuropathy
- Signs and symptoms of blood-glucose disturbances, especially in patients with diabetes
- Skin reactions, rash, or signs of hypersensitivity reactions
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- History of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics such as levofloxacin and ofloxacin, or any other component of the formulation
- Concomitant use with tizanidine due to increased serum tizanidine levels, or with agomelatine
- History of myasthenia gravis
- Ciprofloxacin should be taken at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids, sucralfate, bismuth, multivitamins, sevelamer, or other products containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum, iron, or zinc.
- Avoid taking Ciprofloxacin at the same time as dairy products or high-calcium products alone. Taking this medicine with meals that contain these products is not prohibited.
- To prevent crystal formation in the urine, patients should drink enough water and fluids during Ciprofloxacin treatment.
- During long-term use, follow your physician’s recommendations carefully and inform your physician promptly if symptoms such as fever or signs of infection occur.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with greater caution in patients with kidney failure, and dose adjustment may be necessary in some cases. Inform your physician if you have kidney failure.
- Ciprofloxacin should be prescribed with greater caution in patients with favism / G6PD deficiency. Inform your physician if you have favism.
- Older adults are more likely to experience adverse effects from Ciprofloxacin and may therefore require closer monitoring.
- Ciprofloxacin is recommended for use in children only for treatment of anthrax, and should otherwise be avoided.
- During treatment, avoid unprotected exposure to direct sunlight. Wear protective clothing and use high-protection sunscreen.
- Inform your physician if you have symptoms of high or low blood sugar, such as dizziness, rapid breathing or heartbeat, confusion, drowsiness, weakness, flushing, headache, unusual thirst or hunger, frequent urination, tremor, or sweating.
- Seek medical care immediately if widespread hypersensitivity reactions occur, with symptoms such as redness, swelling, blisters or skin peeling, red eyes, or sores in the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes.
- Ciprofloxacin may increase the risk of diarrhea caused by Clostridioides difficile. Inform your physician immediately if you have symptoms such as stomach pain, very loose or watery stool, or bloody stool.
- Inform your physician immediately if dizziness, restlessness, confusion, or dangerous or self-harming thoughts occur during Ciprofloxacin use.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with greater caution in patients with a history of heart problems. Inform your physician if you experience a fast or abnormal heartbeat or fainting.
- If tendinopathy — tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation — tendon rupture, or peripheral neuropathy occurs, stop Ciprofloxacin and inform your physician.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with greater caution in people with a history of seizures, brain injury including stroke, or aortic aneurysm. Inform your physician if you have any of these conditions.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, consult your physician before using Ciprofloxacin.
The decision to use Ciprofloxacin during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be made according to the disease and the physician’s judgment.
Like all medicines, Ciprofloxacin may cause unwanted side effects along with its desired therapeutic effects, although not everyone experiences them. Possible side effects include:
- Insomnia, headache, or dizziness
- Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, and indigestion
- Skin reactions and photosensitivity
Consult your physician or pharmacist about using Ciprofloxacin together with other medicines or supplements.
Each package contains 20 tablets: 2 blister strips of 10 tablets.
- Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
- The medicine may be used until the end of the month stated in the expiry date on the package. Do not use or store expired medicines.
- Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.
- Keep the medicine in its original packaging until use.
